Camera Cinema

An Iconic Monument of Groningen’s Film Culture

An Iconic Monument of Groningen’s Film Culture

The Camera Cinema opened to the public in 1960 and remained one of Groningen’s main venues for blockbusters until 2006. In the smaller auditorium, Studio, “cultural, avant-garde films” and arthouse productions were screened.

The former Camera Cinema, a municipal monument from the 1960s in the heart of Groningen, is now being given a new future as Campus Camera. Initiated by Noorderpoort, it will become a place where students, professionals, and companies come together: a creative breeding ground and learning environment in one. Here, they will collaborate to strengthen the creative sector in Groningen and the North of the Netherlands, with special attention to innovation, talent development, and the digital as well as the green transition.

The Groninger Filmdagen marks the first step.
